Hiawassee River Camps is located on the Hiawassee River in the North Georgia Mountains of Towns County, Georgia. Hiawassee lies cradled in the heart of the Chattahoochee National Forest and Nantahala National Forest which together make up almost 2 million acres. The Chattahoochee National Forest consists of 750,000 acres and includes 10 wilderness areas, 2,200 miles of rivers and trout streams, numerous waterfalls, and a hiker's paradise with over 450 miles of trails.
The Nantahala National Forest is made up of 4 forests and consists of 1.2 million acres. The Nantahala National Forest includes over 1,300 miles of hiking trails, more than 800 campsites, 490 picnic sites, 7 swimming beaches, 11 wilderness areas, numerous waterfalls, numerous lakes, plus hundreds of miles of rivers and streams, including two nationally recognized wild and scenic rivers.
Hiawassee is located on the Georgia Wine Trail in Georgia Wine Country. The Georgia Wine Trail consists of 14 wineries of which 8 are located within 30 to 45 minutes: Blackstock Vineyards, Persimmon Creek Vineyards, Tiger Mountain Vineyards, Crane Creek Vineyards, Frogtown Cellars, Habersham Vineyards and Winery, Three Sisters Vineyards and Winery, and Wolf Mountain Vineyards. Travel a little further and visit the famous Château Elan Winery in Braselton, Georgia approx. an hour away. Enjoy traveling this trail and visiting these unique wineries and wine tastings.
